Prayer for the Morning

Hello, sun in my face
Hello, you who make the morning
and spread it over the fields
into the faces of the tulips
and nodding morning glories,
and into the windows of, even, the
miserable and the crotchety-

best preacher that ever was,
dear star, that just so happens
to be where you are in the universe
to keep us from ever-darkness,
to ease us with warm touching,
to hold us in the great hands of light-
good morning, good morning, good morning.

Watch, now, how I start the day
in happiness, in kindness.

Have a scrumptious weekend all.....

  1. mary oliver fits so nicely in your posts.

  2. Thanks, Ro....I'm always happy to read M. Oliver, and I haven't read this one in a while :-)

P.S. Your earrings look fantastic -especially all together!

  3. I agree on this--ALWAYS happy with a bit of Mary Oliver sprinkled into the day!!

And there's nothing like a flock of earrings to bring a smile--ohhhhhhh, that bark!!

  4. This is such a good prayer for me to start each day...instead of my usual grouching and grumbling during the hot summer months!

    Your birch danglers sing!

  5. Lovely poem! And I love your silver birch bark, it's so realistic.
