Adventures in Nursing

We've all experienced it, those chapters in your life when everything just wants to fall apart. My son has been sicker than two dogs, fearing he had pneumonia, I sent him off to see his doctor who told him he had a bad cold but BAD is an understatement, he's been running a fever for about six days. One of the reasons he wasn't getting better was because he had to perform over the weekend, so he did and so it goes. I think he turned the corner last night over some spicy Thai lemongrass soup, we'll see, he's still asleep.
In the meantime our heater refused to work, then our vacuum and with sheddos in the house, a good vacuum is a must, I know I'm focusing on the minuses here but there were also a lot of plusses these past couple of days. I met with a lot of friends and was invited to dinner and a movie with a little group of wonderful peeps. When they arrived to pick me up Marty my little poochita was so excited he threw his back out,a fact I didn't realize until I returned home. Naturally it was late so I gave him a small dose of aspirin. (never ever give your dogs ibuprofen) and I've been keeping him confined from jumping and going down steps, he is improving. I have been happily working on custom orders and I came inside yesterday to check on my patients and I heard a ping and instantly knew a bird had hit one of the windows. The reason I'm telling you this is because I've had wonderful success at reviving these poor little guys. I read a birding article stating the best thing to do is to pick them up and keep them warm. I must say, I've had about a 99% success rate with this method. Once I had to carry a little hummingbird in the pocket of my apron for a couple of hours but it was able to make a full recovery.

This pretty little warbler was very distressed when I picked him up. After about 20 minutes, I could feel the life coming back into his body, then he began to struggle to get free.

He left a signature poo in my hand and with fully charged batteries he shot away like an arrow.

I wished I had an airline crate to keep Mart immobilized but with a little ingenuity I built him a fancy, rest, pen with the help of the fireplace screen :)

It's been a trying few days but things are looking up, Banjo and I remain positive. I refuse to let this get me down, like the song says...."We all need someone we can lean on...... and if you want to, you can lean on me"

Eric fixed the heater and we bought a new vacuum while Banjo dreamed of rabbits.......zzzzz

*Movie review; "The Iron Lady"
This movie was tough emotionally, more so than I ever thought but I must say but Meryl Streep was Phenomenal. I know Margaret Thather was a controversial leader and often times not well liked but the film not only takes you thorough her political history but suffering now from dementia the story is also a series of flashbacks to her relationship with her late husband Dennis.
I was glad we had a fun dinner afterwards, the film had so many dark moments, I was glad I didn't have to bring it right home, if you know what I mean.

Have a healthy day, some even a day off work!

  1. You're staying positive so, you're doing better than most people who are hit with so many negatives at one time. That attitude will carry you through. Best wishes for the health of your son and doggums!

    1. It did my heart good to watch it charge off.

My dogs only get sick on weekends, after hours and on holidays, how do they know? Mart is feeling better though he doesn't much care for his new pen with a view.

      Jo heheee xoxo

  6. They're all quite lucky to have you in their lives, I'd say...Jo and her bunny make me smile. And holding that bird, warm and steady, that's just a blessing all the way around.

Sending healing thoughts to Bryce--that much fever is rotten. Just pure rotten.

Thanks for your cheer-filled countenance and photos today--blessings all around!

    1. Well I feel the same way about them Caroline and Jo is a comedian, our household jester.

That fever was a long haul, scary but he is much better as of yesterday, famished, he looks like he lost 15 lbs the hard way.

      Many blessings to you.

  7. Your posts and photos always make me smile. The minuses are so upsetting at the time but sounds like you are making the best of them. I hope Bryce feels better soon....maybe you need to hold him tight like you did the bird :-).

    1. Thank you Sue we are all doing much better. I would love some of your excessive rain it sounds like you have some to spare. It's been such a dry winter.

Oh me too, I love Gary Oldman, I see so few movies but that one sound intriguing.
I want to see The Artist too.

  12. You did the right thing with Marty...rest, rest and more rest.... and inactivity. My little bulldogs have spinal issues and many is the time I had to put them on complete rest and recovery.
I'm a bit late, but...Have a very Wonderful New Year, Ro!

  13. It all happened in an instant for poor Mart, though he's feeling better now and trying to leap small building, like the couch. I'm going to train him after 7 years, he's not allowed to jump..........wish me luck :) I'm stubborn though, I always win.

You too Cyn, Happy New Year!!
