Things With Wings

*sold Damselfly

It feels like it's been a long time since I've written anything here. I've been keeping busy doing other things, mostly with friends just trying to fend off the blahs. It's not sadness or depression I'm feeling, I know it's this particular time of year, the time of the great transition, season change (things move slowly here in that regard) school starting, everything is so dry, finishing up. I'm not complaining, I have nothing to complain about, I think some of you in cold climates feel the same way when your long winter trudges on and on and the anticipation has you feeling a bit stir crazy. My feeling are validated when I speak with friends who are there too without realizing why.
and so it goes.... (I've been reading Kurt Vonnegut :)

I created a couple of blue things, blue things with wings. I forgot how much I love labradorite, I think because it's so plentiful on etsy, I have a tendency to avoid it, why, it's an amazing stone. When I have it at shows it really has the wow factor and it should, it has the properties of an insect wing or maybe the aurora, though I've never seen it.

tails and details

The back looks like stained glass, it is not polished which I like. I etched a damselfly in honor of the color, the piece looks like it could have been designed by LC Tiffany .

The chain is 30 in long and the pendant is suspended from one ring rather than two encouraging the piece to flip when you wear it.

Bluebird

I have a bluebird brain lately, I was working on my deck yesterday when I heard the sound of falling water, when I looked up the birdbath was boiling with bluebirds, LOVE!

I know the offerings are pretty sparse lately but all the details are in them, lots of thought and time. There are periods of great inspiration and bodies of work come spilling forth, then their are the lean times.

For all of you in the wake of the hurricane you are in my thoughts, for the flood victims, current and the ones who fell victim earlier this year, who are trying to rebuild, my heart goes out to you.

Our internet pooped out and we each spent nearly an hour speaking on the phone to verizon. My favorite part when your internet service is down is calling their help line and being directed to www. (huh) I think if we could do that we wouldn't be wasting our time calling.
and so it goes.....

Thank you for your suggestions, I most certainly was out hiking high in the mountains where the air is cool, I'll show you some pictures.

Wishing you all a fine Wednesday, Love Ro

Twigs

The weather here is HOT but there are no fires (fingers crossed)

*Bluebird pair with their heads submerged.

bluebirds find a way to cool off in the garden.

Hodgepodge group in the pool.

Since the only place to be is inside, it's best to keep busy.

My girlfriend called yesterday and asked what I was doing. "Multitasking" I said, "I'm bleaching my teeth, listening to Slaughterhouse Five on my pod and making jewelry" :)

And so

it has taken me

all of sixty years

to understand

that water is the finest drink,

and bread the most delicious food,

and that art is worthless

unless it plants

a measure of splendor in people's hearts.

Form and Function

I was asked to design an eyeglass keeper for one of my favorite cowgirl friends.....

I like a challenge and I like this piece..

Now she has a place to hang her glasses and a pair of reigns to keep them handy.

I'll make this an order-able item for a while. Here take a gander

Ebb and Flow

Patchwork Garden

To be honest I was having a creative ebb, that would be the opposite of flow. I turned off etsy and walked away from the computer for a few days and did other things like...

hanging around friends,
hiking,
cooking,
cleaning,
organizing,
gardening
even changing the yucky pickle pot felt rejuvenating.

I find the best way for me to reclaim my creativity is to just leave it alone. It always comes back like a stray kitten looking for a home.

I made a couple of beautiful things after fulfilling some orders, I think just making simple things is a good way to get the flow back. I started this piece about a month ago and kept putting it to the side gradually adding this and that.

Yesterday it all fell into place.

The stone is ocean jasper which has a light blue hue encircling the orbs, it's stunning, pearls are always good, always.

Lovely Laura

Gamble Oak size 9 1/4
This is another project I had begun and never finished it turned out beautiful.

all the way around.

Studded with leaves, leaves of three and a royston turquoise.

(we had the studio lights set up for another project, last night, so pretty that light, and handy)

I thought I'd show you my custom order. These were designed for three sisters, unity and diversity, the local lapis stones being the common thread that unifies the work but just like the sisters who will wear them, each are unique.

Maybe it's the time of year that had me feeling faded, most likely, is it fall yet?

Thanks for stopping in, I hope you guys are feeling rosy.

Convergence

Hiking in the mountains this morning I came across an amazing covergence of acorn woodpeckers.

Throngs of them in one section of oak trees bopped about in the canopy.

The sound was incredible, imagine 40 people squeaking rubber duckies all at once.

They flitted.....

fought, jack hammered the dead sections.......

and mated.

We must have watched them for twenty minutes

then hiked up to the top.

When we came back down quite a while later they were still at it. You never know what kind of gifts are just waiting to be discovered in the beginning hours of a day.

I hope you catch a few this weekend, xo Ro

Breakfast in Claremont California 91711

After a long hike it's fun to go to breakfast, I thought you might like to join us.....

This is our favorite early morning spot it's called The Village Grille but we call it the Gorilla, it's a retro 50's diner that sponsors car rallies once a week, so once a week the village is filled with collectable cars and proud owners.

Looking down the street of our "tree city" my friends pizza place in the brick building on the corner.

Taxi and mural of the artist that painted the mural, painting the old train station and so on, and so on.........

Breakfast is served, two eggs poached medium, home fries, dry toast to share, one piece for.....

Banjo :) I love this place, they know us and bring Banjo water, we're all thirsty from hiking. Banjo loves to watch the people pass by and get a few extra pats from smiling kids.

It's like sitting outside in Havana without the rust or cigars.

view looking towards the post office under the sycamores

The old fire station complete with a hopeful banner (something rejoicing fall, channel it in!)

One of my friends sells imported soaps and lotions, girlie things. I used to groom her yorkie, her money smells like potpourri, when the doors are open you can smell it across the street.

Need new eyeglasses?

fancy pants

This grand old lady was rescued from another city, she rolled in in the dead of night. It was quite a project cutting wires etc. she's a tall drink of water, I'm glad she was saved.

This one rolled in the same way.....

and this one...an orphanage for great big houses. These three belong to the colleges and are used for parties and functions.

I took the whole day off yesterday it felt GOOD now I'm rested and ready.
I hope you have a good day, thanks for joining me in our fair city.
